BG Annual Church Spring Clean Day

As a kid, I was the youngest of four, and our typical Saturday morning was spent cleaning our house. Ack! It was not what I wanted to wake up and do! And I felt that the worst jobs were relegated to me since I was defenseless against my siblings. However, as I bitterly began to clean a dirty bathroom or wash a floor or window, I could see that my efforts were making a difference, and there was a sense of camaraderie with my siblings.

BG’s annual spring clean-up day is almost nothing like my childhood experience. It will be on a Saturday morning (April 27, 8 AM to noon). But it still might be what you want to wake up and do.

You get to choose your job! There are inside jobs like cleaning parts of our church that aren’t routinely done. And many outside jobs are available if you prefer weeding, mulching, whacking a bush, or painting. And if you don’t have a preference, come ready for action anywhere, and those in charge will appreciate your flexibility.

The camaraderie is remarkable! People you’ve never talked with might work alongside you. Or bring a friend and you can work together. Accomplishing a common task is bonding. If you’re shy, this is your chance to get to know others without having to start a conversation. It’s like being invited to a party without having to make small talk.

You will absolutely make a difference! Every year I’ve helped out, I can walk by the weeded flower bed or trimmed bush with pride that it’s better looking than before. And the accumulated effect of the group’s efforts is amazing. Participating can help you feel more a part of this body and realize that we are best when working together.

The snacks are usually pretty good! Okay, I grant this reason is the weakest. But you will be able to take a break and chat over coffee or tea and a doughnut.

Mark your calendar and join the fun. You can come for any amount of time. We hope to see you there.
