A Promiseland Handbook has been developed as a reference for protocols and policies relating to children’s ministry at Bethel Grove.  Consistent use of these policies by teachers and volunteers, with support for their use by parents, helps maintain a safe and nurturing atmosphere for growth and learning.

To ensure the children’s safety, we strive to maintain accurate attendance records, a two-adult rule in each classroom, a fire/emergency evacuation plan, and a visual pager/tag system for drop-off and pick-up of children from birth to preschool age. Parents of children from birth to preschool are expected to personally pick up their children after class unless other arrangements are specified at drop-off.

Health policies outline steps for volunteers to follow when diapering children, assisting with bathroom use, and caring for children who are unwell. Little ones who have had fevers, vomiting, or contagious illness in the preceding 24 hours should NOT come to Promiseland. Snacks are frequently served in the classes, therefore parents should advise the staff about any known food allergies.

Our teachers and volunteers use the following guidelines when a need for discipline arises:  Adults are encouraged to maintain a respectful relationship with the child, remain calm yet firm, provide redirection and logical consequences, and page the parent when a child’s behavior exceeds the volunteer’s comfort level.

Decisions are made by the Promiseland Ministry Team regarding when to transition children from one classroom to the next.  Classroom changes are usually made in September, January, and June.
